Vision & Mission

Vision Statement:

Straight Up’s vision is to be an authentic community that desires God’s presence. We aim to create space for middle school students to ask questions and be real to themselves, others, and God.

Mission Statement:

Put simply, we desire to show up, open up, then grow up.
Let me explain, first, we show up. We are consistently present physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. Consistency showing up lets students know that they are cared for and valued. Second, we open up. We believe community is formed when we prioritize authenticity over excellence and relationships over experiences. People are drawn to people who are always real than people who are always right. Third, we grow up. Our faith grows when we lean into the hard questions about God, the world, and our mission. This community is guided by the Holy Spirit into those unfamiliar spaces. Not only is our faith growing, we are growing up into the church. In the end, our mission is to integrate students into the church at large.

Serve As a Shepherd!

Wouldn't it just be easier to say we are all "leaders"? Well, I guess but I am convinced we are more than leaders. In John 10 we get a key insight to how Jesus functions: the Good Shepherd. This topic is worth more time, but here is the low-down. First, we strive to be like Jesus, the Good Shepherd, by guiding God's people back to God’s presence. Second, we are invested. To explain this, we are not like day workers who get up and leave when things get hard and messy! While it would be easy to keep our conversations shallow and life hidden, we go deep and open up to each other. Finally, we protect. The Good Shepherd comes to give life and life abundantly, while the enemy comes to kill, steal, and destroy; we protect by always pointing to the One who offers life abundantly!
