Weekly Devotion #3

Renae Matthes   -

“For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have fixed our hope on the Living God, who is the savior of all men especially of believers.” – 1 Timothy 4:10

“Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the Living God; just as God said, ‘I WILL DWELL IN THEM AND WALK AMONG THEM; AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY WILL BE MY PEOPLE.” – 2 Corinthians 6:16

I have been hooked on three words lately, actually a very long time lately. I can’t seem to shake it. So I decided to look into it a little bit. When I google “The Living God,” I found a statistic that said there are 60 verses that mention “The Living God.” I thought, that’s cool since 6 is the number of days of creation and God is the Creator of everything…

I wonder if God is trying to remind me of something as I read all these verses that mention the living God? Maybe in light of the world around me, as things seem to be out of control, politics, world economy, world health, social unrest in our country & around the whole world. Maybe He wants me to remember that He is the Living God living among us and in those who believe in Him. Maybe He is also trying to reach sooo many that don’t believe in Him around us. He is the GOD who WAS, the GOD who IS, and the GOD who is to COME. The eternal Living God — without Him there is no breath of life.

As I have been pondering over these many verses I am set at ease knowing that God is with me, with us, and cares for this world He created. He cares so much that He put on flesh, walked among us, and died a horrible death for me/us. Also, fun fact, on the 6th day, Passover, Jesus hung on a cross for us and said it is finished. As to say I am still in control of the world I created.

Another thing that keeps happening is when I go to pray for friends & family and open up my Bible I end up at another verse. I hope it comforts you as I believe the Living God wants to comfort us in all our afflictions and the crazy things going on all around us. He Is the Living God and is actively working to show us His goodness in the land of the living.

“I am still confident in this; I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.” – Psalm 27:13 & 14
