Why do we have Life Groups?

One of our values at Capo is to see healthy relationships grow and we believe it is important for everyone to discover a place where they can connect and see that happen. We were never created to “do life” alone and these recent months have emphasized just how essential cruciform community is.

Life Groups exist for individuals to build community, which is an important part of maintaining a vibrant relationship with Jesus during these trying times.

A life group is a group that meets centered on Christ.  A Christ Centered community is different than the other types of community in your life.  We like to call it a cruciform community.  A community that is not shaped around our particular interests, passions or characteristics but one shaped around the cross.  In these cruciform communities we are committed to the conviction and comfort of the Holy Spirit while celebrating the work of Christ in our lives.

Joining a Life Group is an invitation to take a step closer to each other. In doing so, we will experience a greater fullness of life that God promises and our city will see a greater expression of His kindness through how we love each other and do life together.

Life Groups are a catalyst for us to grow closer both to God and each other by being equipped to experience the truth of God’s Word in every area of our lives. We want to see God demonstrate His will in and through us so profoundly, and obviously, that it becomes the very thing that draws people into the kingdom.

What are the marks of a life group?

Life Groups are typically 6-15 members and often start together around a desire to be connected and known by others seeking to see Christ grow in their lives. Hosts/Facilitators open their home to create a welcoming space for connection, conversation, and encouragement, allowing the Holy Spirit to lead and move freely as the group grows deeper in relationship with each other and God.  The format and atmosphere of each Life Group will be different depending on the facilitators and those attending. Some groups will meet around a time of worship, some will share a meal together, others will join each other for recreational opportunities outside of their group time, but all exist to help people connect with each other and with God. They are a safe place to be known, encouraged, celebrated, and challenged.

What if I want to start a Life Group?

What does it take to make a church of our size feel like family? You!

Being a Life Group facilitator is a great privilege and responsibility as you help connect people with God and each other, by bringing care and encouragement to the CBC family. You help to establish a safe place for people to be open, encouraged, celebrated, and challenged. As a Life Group facilitator you help to embody our mission to put people in touch with God and join the mission of Jesus in doing the same, for those in our communities.

With the size of Capo Beach Church, we need many people to begin to step into this calling to be a Life Group Facilitator! We are looking for those of you who love to create connection and enjoy having people in your home to say “yes” with us to hosting one of these small groups.

A Life Group Facilitator is someone who loves God and loves people. They will help to create and facilitate a space for connection, conversation, and encouragement, allowing the Holy Spirit to lead and move freely.

This hospitality looks like:
  • Open your home and creating a welcoming space to host a small group of CBC’ers.
  • Facilitating connection and conversation to allow the people in your group to get to know each other.
  • Facilitating conversational learning around a book, video series or bible study each 1/4 (Pastor Matt will make recommendations)
  • Facilitating a time where the small group can encourage and pray for each other.
  • Take the first step to start a group by filling out the facilitator application and letting us know you are interested in starting a group.
